Racism is without a doubt a problem in New Zealand, but what is perceived as racism, and what is the cause of racism is a heavily debated topic. It seems with the progression of technology and inter-human relationships, racism has become more about the perception of race, as opposed to the actual race itself. I believe that currently society is heading down a path where our ultraobession with race is actually dividing us more, as opposed to uniting us. Although I believe that the solution to racism is by understanding different view points from all races, this can only be achieved if we allow ourselves to break the racial moulds that we have created.
Hi Liam
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, we do need to develop a much better appreciation and acceptance for different points of view. Did you know New Zealand is one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world! We have over 200 nations represented in Aotearoa. Some schools in Auckland have 33 different ethnicities amongst their students, how cool would that be.
You're so right, we need to celebrate our differences and break down the division. Good on you for sharing your thoughts. What do you think our communities could do to help bridge the gap?
